Art
Landscapes of Brittany: Windswept beaches, wild heathland, marshes and standing stones.
Barbara Hann is an artist and writer living in Central Brittany, the inspiration for much of her work. She draws and paints enigmatic Breton landscapes: windswept beaches, scrubby heathland and marshland, inhabited by ambiguous, sometimes sinister, figures. Her writing is now focused on short stories and flash fiction, humorous and pithy. Her latest collection characterises life as an Englishwoman in the mixed rural community in which she lives. One of her short stories was published recently in the online magazine “Funny Pearls.”
She has also written two novels; One, “Gerda” a YA cyberpunk retelling of the story of The Snow Queen; the other a thriller, “Thrill Act”, set in a small travelling circus in 1963.
She has worked as an art Federation teacher, and as a psychotherapeutic counsellor. She particularly loves the short stories of Elizabeth Taylor and Katherine Mansfield, and the humour of Alan Bennett and Elizabeth Gaskell. And of course, Jane Austen.
